Hannah Parker

Hi! I'm Hannah. Welcome to my portfolio, this is a space I use to write about all the things that interest me. Not quite a blog and not quite a content portfolio page but somewhere in between. Some of the pieces I'll publish on here will be causal and others will take a deep dive into the things I've been obsessing over for weeks. Expect art, film, television, politics and maybe some music. So have a look around :)

Zero Dark Thirty: Masculinity, Militarism and One Woman’s Hunt For The Father of Al-Qaeda.

A quick dive into Hollywood's portrayal of gender issues within foreign policy and international security. This post is focusing on Katherine Bigelow's 2012 film Zero Dark Thirty, exploring the struggles of protagonist Maya on her hunt for high profile international war criminal Osama Bin Laden. Here, I discuss Bigelow's analysis of gender roles in the US Central Intelligence Agency, but also wider gendered themes touched on in the film - such as the contrast between perceptions of masculinity in US military operations and Al-Qaeda's retaliation tactics across the Middle East.
